Some People Take This Pageant Stuff Way Too Seriously

Last weekend, it was lazy couple of days here at the Reality Junkies household.  I watched a lot of TV.  More particularly, I watched a lot of Toddlers & Tiaras.  How come I never really watched this show before?  Immediately, I was hooked.  Now childhood pageants go against almost everything I believe in, but I just could not look away.  I watched one episode after another until my daughter started making fun of me.  I also noticed that a lot of the same children appear in many of the episodes.  I can only imagine how much their parents must spend traveling from pageant to pageant to prove how beautiful their little girls (or, in some cases, little boys) are.

The episode this week was a particularly interesting one.  It featured the one and only EDEN WOOD!  Eden Wood is the diva of the pageant circuit.  I don’t see anything special in this little girl.  She seems like a typical 5 year old to me, but her very name invokes fear in the other contestants and their moms.  She certainly knows how to ham it up for the judges, while little girls like bespectacled cutie, Isabella Gielniak, was the only one in her age division applauding for the other winners while she, herself, just won a princess title.  Whereas, Eden Wood was signing autographs on the sidelines.  Autographs!  She can barely even write her name.  She has also appeared on Good Morning America and the Today show, and there’s talk about an Eden Wood clothing line and doll.

Did I mention that someone also made a music video of her?

Did I also mention this show is addictive?  If you need me, I’ll be catching up on past episodes On Demand.

Toddlers & Tiaras airs on Wednesdays on TLC right after my other new favorite show, My Strange Addiction.

  1. I could say a few things, but I will restrict myself to this since Eden is just a little kid, so she doesn’t even really have a say in any of this pageant stuff ….

Her mom apparently self-published a book called “From Cradle to Crown”, or some such nonsense, which she sells at the pageants. Does there really need to be a book about a five-year-old? Or is the book just an exercise in killing trees and lining pockets?

Don’t even get me started about the autographed photos. Hopefully little Eden will win lots and lots of pageants, because she is going to need every penny of that prize money, plus some, for her future therapy bills.

    Ugh on her mother.

I saw that book in the episode I watched. Honestly, I thought it was a coloring book, which seemed a little odd. But an actual book is even more odd. I definitely feel the same way you do. Sadly, the money they win doesn’t even come close to what their parents even spend on the pageants. Someone mentioned they spent about $200,000.00 in the past 3 years! It’s unbelievable.
