This fall’s Direct TV schedule is full of entertaining possibilities, as many shows enjoy new premieres or continuations. This is a consistent aspect of the fall season, and has fans of all sorts of different genres very excited for the months to come. In particular, the reality tv schedule for this fall is quite extensive, and includes a number of different programs for people to keep an eye on. So, with this in mind, here are a few words on some of the biggest reality shows going on this fall.

o The new season of Dancing With The Stars debuted in late September, and promises to offer more of the same for its fans this season. This fall’s lineup of stars features Chaz Bono, Kristin Cavallari, and US Soccer star Hope Solo, among others, and should be just as much fun as people have come to expect from the series.

o On September 21st, Fox brought new Simon Cowell reality talent show The X-Factor to American television for the first time. The structure and idea of this show are extremely similar to American Idol, which helped to turn Cowell into a television superstar, and many are curious to see how closely the shows compare – and which is better.

o The Amazing Race came back for a 19th time on September 25th, and really, the fact that this marks the 19th run says it all. This series continues to gather and entertain its followers, and looks to continue for some time to come.

o Some were surprised to hear about, on September 28th, the beginning of The Real World San Diego 2. This show is almost unique in how long it has managed to stay successful on MTV, which tends to allow many of its programs to come and go over the course of a few years. However, The Real World hasn’t changed, and is back in San Diego for a second time.

o Continuing the trend/genre of reality tv shows that follow celebrities and their home lives, Gene Simmons Family Jewels premiered on October 4th, and should be interesting to follow. This show combines a rock star of previous generations with an audience (the celebrity reality tv audience) of primarily younger people.

These are just a few of the literally dozens of reality shows that have premiered or continued this fall season. If you are a fan of this type of programming, you should definitely look up a full list of premieres, just to be sure that you are not missing out on something that sounds particularly interesting or entertaining to you. You may realize just how many options there are out there when it comes to reality television.

Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer

You know that’s what the show should really be called.  Don’t deny it.  The first results show of the season just proved this point when America said buh-bye to Mike Catherwood.  My guess is that everyone voted him off just because they don’t know who he is.  I admit I had to look up a couple of the contestants this season to find out who they were, but Mike is the only one whose name I had never even heard before.  He’s a radio DJ who co-hosts Loveline.  This is how out of tune I am with the world: I thought Adam Corolla hosted Loveline.  In fact, I didn’t even know Loveline still existed.  I am a little sad though, because I love Lacey Schwimmer, his dance partner, so much that I would even consider jumping over to the other side of the fence temporarily.  And not just because she’s David Schwimmer’s cousin, but that plays a small part.

Who else is super excited that Daniel son (Ralph Macchio for you people who don’t stereotype stars into their most famous roles like I do) is on top???  I want to squee like a school girl.

My posts are going up a little late this week due to the holiday, but that doesn’t mean I have forgotten.  How could I forget the most controversial season of Dancing With the Stars?  One of the few reality shows that I didn’t think could cause drama, did.  However, the ratings this season were through the roof, which means I’m sure we can expect more controversial “stars” in future seasons.

I’m sure you all know by now that Jennifer Grey took home the coveted mirror ball trophy, which is probably the worst prize in reality show history.  I was pretty surprised, but at the same time, I wasn’t.  Bristol Palin brought up the rear in viewers’ votes this time, which leads me to believe people wanted to vote for her to take a stand, but they didn’t really believe she deserved to win.  Floating somewhere in the middle was Disney star, Kyle Massey.

Good job, Jennifer, you deserved it.

All shows were up this week, which isn’t a shock seeing as there is little else to do in the winter 🙁 Survivor came close to breaking the 12 million mark again, and Dancing with the Stars had their highest rating since the 2nd episode, but Hell’s Kitchen is still struggling going against the big Wed night lineup of not only Survivor but other huge shows (Criminal Minds, Modern Family, etc).

Steven Cowan sat down in his home on Monday to watch Dancing With the Stars and ended up getting taken away by the SWAT team.  Why?  I’m glad you asked!  Apparently, he thinks tiny people are in there performing for him week after week.  I have no other clue why he would think shooting his TV would help his case.  He doesn’t like Bristol Palin and thinks she’s only on the show because of who her mother is.  Regardless if that’s the reason or not, shooting the TV won’t help get her voted off.  His wife must also be in on the plot to have the Palins take over the world, since he turned his gun on her next.  Luckily she was able to get away.  Maybe he should just try turning off the television set next time.  If he has to do it by throwing the remote control at it, so be it.  At least it isn’t a gun.  Although it does bring new meaning to Bristol the Pistol.

Last night, we got to see Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough with a perfect score of 60.  That wasn’t surprising.  What was surprising, however, was that the judges decided to hop on the “We Love Bristol

Woo! Go, Kyle!

Palin” bandwagon and gave her a few 9’s.  Hey, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!  That still left her at the bottom of the pack, since everyone else is much better at dancing than she is.  Oh, yeah, they’re actual stars too.  But I guess everyone loves the underdog, eh?  Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, whom I love dearly, received a total score of 58, which was their highest score of the season.

weekly reality show ratings report

This week in the ratings report, we get the return of Hell’s Kitchen finally, and the break hurt them by a million viewers, ouch!  Hopefully they pick up as people realize they’re back on.  The Amazing Race 17, and Survivor: Nicaragua are also suffering mid-season lull’s, though TAR is always hurt competing with Sunday Night Football, and crazy schedule on the east coast.

Dancing with the “stars” however, nobody is touching those ratings any time soon.  People love their dancing with former and wannabee celebrities I guess.

Children dancing

This week’s challenge was an interesting one.  Instant Dance!  Basically, the contestants knew what dance they would have to perform, but they only received their song mere minutes before they had to perform it.  I was expecting lots of fail.  However, this challenge produced some of the best dances we’ve seen so far this season!  My personal favorite was Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer doing   the jive to Good Golly Miss Molly.  They earned an almost perfect score of 29.  Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough’s performance actually scored a perfect score of 30, despite an earlier knee injury.

weekly reality show ratings report

Welcome to the 2nd ratings report.  This week most of the shows increased in ratings, especially The Amazing Race which got back on track with 11 million compared to last weeks 9 million.   Merge seemed to help Survivor as well as they’re back over 12 million after dipping under for the first time this season.  The Dancing with the Stars juggernaut still held strong and doesn’t seem to be dropping any time soon.

Welcome to Dancing With the Stars 200th episode!  This was yet another week full of surprises!  Taylor Swift performed and we got to see Tom Bergeron faint at her feet, which is always a good time.  And the legendary Rod Stewart performed too.  I love them both.  Seriously.  If I could hang out with Taylor and Rod, I would be a happy, happy person.  Could you just imagine the conversations the three of us would have though?  I can’t.
