Dancing With the Stars – Results Week 8

Children dancing

This week’s challenge was an interesting one.  Instant Dance!  Basically, the contestants knew what dance they would have to perform, but they only received their song mere minutes before they had to perform it.  I was expecting lots of fail.  However, this challenge produced some of the best dances we’ve seen so far this season!  My personal favorite was Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer doing   the jive to Good Golly Miss Molly.  They earned an almost perfect score of 29.  Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough’s performance actually scored a perfect score of 30, despite an earlier knee injury.

Carrie Ann Inaba

Carrie Ann is not amused.

The Instance Dance was really a joy to watch.  The judging, however, produced some drama when Carrie Ann Inaba didn’t think Maksim Chmerkovskiy was as perfect as he apparently thought he was.  I think Carrie Ann was on to something though.  Maks and Brandy really should have started their dance earlier instead of trying to set up the perfect backdrop.  Despite their disagreement, Carrie Ann still gave them a 9, which had me scratching my head.  Maybe she felt bad for giving him the most patronizing smile I have ever seen in my life.

At the end of the night, Jennifer Grey and Brandy were tied at the top of the leaderboard with 57 points each.  Hanging out at the bottom (again) were Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas with a combined judges score of 47.  I almost feel sorry for Bristol by this point.  It must feel weird to constantly be on the bottom, but still hanging in there.

Despite a super cute performance by some young dancers, tonight was not all fun and games.  Someone had to go home.  It’s down to the wire.  Brandy and Kurt Warner were on the chopping block.  I think we all know how this is going to end…

We bid you adieu, Kurt and Anna Trebunskaya.  It was a pleasure to see your chemistry.  And Anna’s exuberance was a breath of fresh air.
