Exclusive Interview – Vicki From The Amazing Race 17

So I’ve been sitting on this interview for a few days because I was one of the lucky ones to get the stomach virus which resulted in about 24 hours of walking back and forth from the couch to the bathroom, except for the times I decided just to fall asleep on the bathroom floor with a roll of toilet paper as a pillow and a towel as a blanket (true story).

At one point during that nightmare it dawned on me that I had this interview I needed to publish, and I couldn’t let people down!  I had to pull myself up, drag my ass to the computer and write this up.  See what I do for the Junkies?

This interview is with the one and only Vicki from The Amazing Race 17, the tattooed sweetheart who surprised a lot of people and made it into the final 4 despite her teammate giving up on her, finishing last twice, and having frequent asthma attacks whenever she had to hustle.   I was one of the people who thought they were going to be out early, but I’m glad I was wrong, as we got to see her true character shine through as a selfless, helpful and kind person.

Btw, because my questions were pretty generic, over the course of the upcoming seasons, I’ll probably be looking to take questions from readers to submit to people, maybe we can get something better than what I came up with!

Also, I blurred out the faces of her friends from pictures.  I didn’t want people thinking she’s really friends with aliens with no faces.

TRJ:
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions, first off, tell us about the Vicki experience. What do you do when you’re not racing around the world?

Vicki:
When I am not racing around the work I’m in deep with my career! I am really passionate about being a hairstylist, making people look & feel beautiful. I get to express myself through my work!! Besides my career I’m always keeping myself very active with either being at the gym, aerobics classes, snowboarding, boxing and riding!!

TRJ:
How did you feel when you were first told you were going to run the race? Do you remember what you were doing?

Vicki:
When I was first told I was on the race I was at work and thought it was a joke lol! I thought somebody was honestly playing a prank on me!! Like punked! Lol

TRJ:
How are things going with Nick?

Vicki:
Things are going great with Nick and I. A lot less stressed being off the race!

TRJ:
Do you think the race impacted your relationship? If so, was it positive or negative?

Vicki:
I think the race brought a more positive impact then negative to our relationship. We communicate better with one another!

TRJ:
He was pretty snappy at you through the race, do you feel editing did a good or bad job with how it went?

Vicki:
Nick was pretty snappy on the race, but I feel as the editing only showed the negative verse the positive. He does have a bad temper but he didn’t the whole race! They never showed us having a good time! Which we did most of the time!

TRJ:
With how he was portrayed, how has it been since returning? Have your friends given you and/or him shit about the way he snapped at you?

Vicki:
Being back has been great for me. I have gotten complements left and right unlike nick he is always getting some smart remark for the way he was portrayed on the show.

TRJ:
I’ve seen a lot of bashing of Nick during the season, how does it feel to see that?

Vicki:
I feel bad for nick! I hate seeing all the bad comments about him everywhere and from everyone.

Moving on,

TRJ:
Did you have any real fears you needed to overcome on the race? How did you handle it?

Vicki:
My only fears are and were BUGS!! I hate bugs!! Everything about them! Thank god there wasn’t any bug challenges!!

TRJ:
The show is only an hour long, but we found out some legs, like the one that got Gary and Mallory were extremely long (15+ hours). Are most legs a lot longer than what they appear?

Vicki:
Yes – most legs are longer than they appear on tv!

TRJ:
Aside from Chad and Stephanie in the airport, when did you guys find time to eat during the race? Or bathroom breaks? Did most teams just skip on eating until the pit stop?

Vicki:
Eating wasn’t a priority. We ate when we had time and money. I personally was too stressed out to want to eat . Airport stops were where you had the most time to eat.

TRJ:
On the last leg, how did it feel to go through the race many hours behind the other teams? Did you do all the challenges? If so, which detour did you pick? (Ice skating or Carrying the stuff)

Vicki:
The last leg was kind off upsetting because we knew we were in last and too far behind! We made the best of it and stayed positive the entire leg. We did what we could do due to safety reasons! It was to dark for a lot of things.

TRJ:
Ok, time to be candid, give me brief descriptions of the teams:

Brooke and Claire – Most spunky set of girls I know! So entertaining and positive!
Jill and Thomas – Most down to earth people! Luv them
Princeton Boys – Always put u in a good mood and lifted your spirits!
Gary and Mallory – They are a ray of sunshine always positive and great company
Nat and Kat – Most genuine girls I have ever met!! I LOVE them!!
Chad and Stephanie – Great couple and fun company!!
Mike and Kevin – Always make you laugh, smile and don’t even have to try!!
Volley ball girls –  Determined girls! They don’t let anyone in there way !! Or close :)) great competitors!

TRJ:
Once eliminated, who were you rooting for and why?

Vicki:
I honestly loved all the teams that were in the top three! It is hard to pick!! But if I had to Kat and Nat! I just love them! They were great company threw out.

TRJ:
Given the chance, would you run the race again?

Vicki:
I would definitely run the race again!! In a heart beat!!

TRJ:
What are your future plans? Have you received any offers for modeling / acting / work after the show?

Vicki:
My future plans are to stay in the loop or reality tv hopefully get to b on dancing with the stars! I love that show! Also maybe try to take this exposure to build a bigger plan than I had to taking over the hair industry in LAS VEGAS and or LA!!

So I realized I asked a LOT of questions, I probably drove her crazy, but she was very patient with me and handled it like a professional.  This was my first interview, so it was a bit sloppy, but I hope to keep improving as I do more.

I want to thank her once again for this, and I wish her and Nick all the best!

Oh man, stomach viruses are really awful. Right up there with food poisoning. Hope you get better soon. Thanks for the interview! Loved the feedback Vicki gave on the other teams. She seems like a nice person. There was a CBS insider video where a bug crawled down her top, so yes she definitely doesn’t like bugs. Not that I’m a fan of bugs either

Thanks, it was a rough few days 🙂

We’re going to try and get a lot more interviews next season, just wish I could think of better questions for them lol

  3. […] contact.  I definitely wasn’t as calm and collected as Steve was when he would chat with Vicki from The Amazing Race, but I was starstruck!  Throughout the season, I calmed down.  Nona was just that sweet and down […]
